Diamond Dead Eye

We just got in a Dead Eye, Diamond's high end bow.  It's pretty wicked, with a short brace height & unique design.

This will be my bow for the 2011 hunting season.  I added a single pin sight from HHA, attempting to simplify my sight window.  The next addition was an Octane Stabilizer, since someone stole the stabilizer off the Ross I was shooting.  That was a disappointment.

There is a lot to know about this bow: 7 layer limbs, throttle cams, Invelvet finish, Flx-guard, center-lock pocket & Octane string.  Check out the Diamond website for all the specs & descriptions.

We haven't had any new Diamonds on the shelf, so I ordered this one for all the Diamond fans to try out.

Muzzy

Every hunter knows Muzzy, it's considered the "old reliable" broadhead. The company has been around the late 1970's and is now located in Georgia. The name "Muzzy" is actually the late founder John Mussacchia Sr.'s high school nickname!

Muzzy Office & Facility
They have a good hunting show called Bad To The Bone, and the Muzzy  website gives details on all the products available.  The rest they've created,  called the X-Celerator, is one of a kind.  It's a unique design uses a rigid attachment to the downward cable to bring the rest up at full draw and drive it out of the way of the arrow.  It makes sense, just looks pretty crazy.

Up until the last year, Jason & I both shot Muzzy.  Jason used MX-4 & I was 4 Blade 100s.  The only reason we changed is to try new products, so we can tell our customers from experience.  Mid season I got some NAP Bloodrunner 3Blade.  But when I shot them, I was 5 inches off.  So, the Muzzys went back on my arrows!  Maybe this year I'll have the patience to deal with the others.

Jason has been using Spitfire expandables.  He shot two deer with one last year, just to test the durability.  They do what they say, cutting a huge hole.

What do you shoot for broadheads?  The market is ever-changing.  PhatHead make the thickest blade. SlickTrick has a "super short" length.  Grim Reapers feature Tracrazor tips that pulverize bone like a scalpel.
NAP Bloodrunner has a plunger style expandable trigger.  Steel Force Premium  have lifetime free sharpening.  Crimson Talon has spiral blades. Thunderhead Edge are serrated.

There are so many broadheads, it can be overwhelming.  If you just can't choose & want a fair price.  The basic Muzzy come in 6 packs.  The price for 6 is often equivalent to some of the new trendy broadhead 3 packs.  Once you get them, the replacement blades are affordable.

2013

Did you see the Sunday paper? (St. Paul Pioneer Press)

The subtitle is what alarms me.

It's pretty sad, moose hunting here in Minnesota could cease.  I hope we get drawn before it's too late.  I'm sure we aren't the only ones thinking that.  The article discusses the decline in population.  But in my opinion, the answer to the problem is starting a wolf season.  I know this is a controversial statement.  But some nights, when hunting, we see more wolves than deer!  The DNR needs a reality check.

I'll post the article in our shop.  If it interests you, swing by and read it.

ONE MORE LEFT!

Did you make it out to the 3D shoot this past weekend?  I shot half the course with Jason Sunday morning.

It was foggy out.  We thought we'd outsmart the mosquitoes by shooting early, but they were out enjoying the moist atmosphere.

*SWAT*

I haven't shot the course in a while & was impressed with the creative scenarios!

The carp was my favorite.  I even put a video of the arrow retrieval on YOUTUBE.   Al said when he shot it, frogs jumped everywhere off the platform.

ONE MORE SHOOT LEFT. AUGUST 27-28

DON'T MISS OUT, THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO FINE TUNE YOUR SKILLS FOR THE REAL DEAL.  THE SHOOTS TEST YOU IN DIFFERENT LIGHTING, WIND, BUGS, SUN, HILLS, KNEELING, AND MORE.  THESE ARE ALL TRUE TO HUNTING CHALLENGES THAT YOU DON'T ALWAYS ENCOUNTER WHEN SHOOTING IN YOUR YARD.

TEST OUR ROSS

Ross is back on it's own, after being owned by Bowtech briefly.  They sent us a Crave 31.5 to test for a month.  We'd like some of you to shoot it and see give us some feedback.

They're out of Olathe, Kansas. The company is trying regain it's presence in the archery world.  The website only lists 4 dealers in Minnesota so far!

Since Jason up and sold my Black Ice out from under me one day, I've been shooting up this Ross.  It's zippee & accurate.  We both agree the grip is ultra comfy.  It looks blocky, but they definitely engineered it right! They call it Slimline.

An aluminum riser with a skeletal design makes it a mere 3.8 pounds in weight.

80% let off. 31.5 inches in length.  Comes in 50, 60, 70 pound draw weights.  Extra wide shelf & huge sight window.   The dual cams have a rock SOLID back wall when drawn, you 've got to shoot it to believe it!!!  It's draw length is adjustable from 26-30" with modules.

Ours is set at 28"

Winner's Choice string & cable

Realtree AP camo

String stop

Dual locking pivoting limb pockets

I love this picture!

Kissin' The Camera

We have a frisky buck running around.

He likes to kiss the camera! Or is he giving us the crazy eye?

We are "plotting" something!

Have you started your fall food plots?  We decided to throw in a "mini plot" by the house. With our business, it can be tricky getting out to hunt in the fall.  This location will at least ensure our 11 year old can get out often!  He'll be turning 12 before archery season.  He's pretty pumped to have his Firearms Safety Training all wrapped up & hit the field.

Jason mowed a large area behind the house, then disced a small section up good.

Due to the time crunch, we opted out of weed killer.

We chose this site, because it has been attracting deer for us already.  They like the mowed area just beyond our yard.  It has some clover there & it's near our Trophy Rock salt block.  Here is a visitor we had a few weeks ago.  We have since seen bigger bucks around.

Isn't he cute?  I really enjoy watching these guys come hunting season.  We let them pass, but our son would likely shoot him.  But with the luck kids often have, he could shoot a big one!

The plot is tucked in a corner by the lake.  A nearby beaver dam is a natural funnel between the upper & lower lake.  We'll have deer, the question is whether or not the bucks will stay nocturnal.  It's hard to have a deer camera up so close to the house, with dogs running around.  But at least it'd be easy to check!

We chose a bag of Shot Plot, for fast growing results.  It runs $12 for a bag.

Good seed-to-soil contact is key, so Jason ran it over with the four wheeler.

We'll let you know how it grows & hopefully post some pictures of our visitors later on!
