Winter Sightings

We had a good "white out"storm on Thursday & the wildlife was sure moving!  What makes deer move in crappy weather?  They seem to love it!  Regardless, these hazy images are almost magical.  In a winter with little snow, a day like this seemed so pretty.

It was fun to watch them cross the road, all in a row.
I am a fan of the white tailed deer & enjoy observing their habits year round.
I'll never tire of deer sightings & consider each spotting a fortunate event.

REGIONALS

THIS IS THE WEEKEND TO SHOOT REGIONALS AT NORTHRIDGE ARCHERY RANGE.  SHOOTING THIS WILL ALLOW THE MSAA TO PLACE YOU IN THE PROPER GROUP OF ARCHERS.  THE DIFFERENT "FLIGHTS" MAKE THE COMPETITION FAIR.  IT IS ALSO THE ONLY WAY TO GET INVITED TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT.  IF YOU INTEND TO SHOOT STATE, YOU MUST FIRST DO REGIONALS.

BE ON TIME SATURDAY, THE SHOOTING STARTS AT 11:00.

    Enjoying NO SNOW

It is, by far, the strangest winter ever.  The wildlife are sure to benefit from the lack of white stuff.  If you can't snowmobile, ski or snowshoe, then why not just go for a hike?!

In some places there is enough snow to see where the deer are moving....

    ....and resting at.

Plus, the lack of snow allows the kids to come along, even if they thing the best part is taking a break.

Until they realize that since you can't sled, ROLLING down the hill is the next best thing!

Enjoy the nice winter, or it will be too late & we might get 18 feet of snow!

    WHERE do they hide?

It seems like a cycle, every few years the rumor of a huge buck in our area spreads.  Yes, even a half mile from town, the big old bucks thrive.  Now, a large one has been seen on the actual property we hunt.   It's about a week after bow season has ended.  What I want to know is~ where was he all summer & fall?  If he's as big as they say~ where was he the last TWO summers & falls.  No one said hunting is easy, it's often frustrating & exhausting.  Even if you do get a trail camera picture of a big buck, there is no guarantee that anyone in your hunting party will ever see it.  Sneaky bucks.

I'm having post hunting depression.  The news of a big buck isn't helping!  At least during the season, you have the option to hunt!  Time may restrict hunters from actually getting out in the field.  But now, it's over and there is nothing we can do about it.  Shooting league will pacify me a little.  Do you get restless this time of year & yearn to search for antlers?

Our friend found a matching pair from a fork horn in December, so the antlers are already starting to drop.  This rumor will give the boys and me plenty of inspiration for snow less winter walks!

    Maybe he looked like this. . .  . . . . .  .
