Crazy New Products!

Sometimes I oogle over the things we can't get from our archery supplier.  So, here are a few new products that are worth a look.

For the on the go or back country hunter that needs his cup of Joe:  Propane coffee pot Primus Camping

Totally awesome.  Why didn't I think of that?  I guess cooking on the fire with an old percolator works too.

Next up, a pint sized GPS Geeky Gadgets .  Simple & handy, just my style.

Third; a solar charger for all your electronic necessities Practical Travel Gear. If you consider that a cell phone call could save your life, this might be worth the $90.  That is, if you get coverage in your hunting location.

Locator Turkey Calls

I am not a turkey hunter, but my husband and son are.  My question is: HOW THE HELL DOES A OWL CALL WORK ON A TURKEY?

Maybe I'm not the only person trying to figure this out.  So, here are some helpful explanations.
Turkey Locating

So, now I've learned it is an odd tactic that simply elicits a response from toms.  Now, here is the real deal, if you're wanting to get good.  I love this video, by the way.  So cool.
Barred owl

Now THIS fella know his stuff!
Turkey call options & advice

Locate with an owl call BEFORE daylight, possibly even the night before. That's good advice.  Also, be aware any sound you make is potentially gonna bust you.  Don't over do it, this a lesson ALL hunters will learn.  It's easy to get bored and over call.

Here is a photo I took on June 20th on my way to work.  I whipped a cookie when I spotted him roosted on someones hunting shack.  He flew off into a tree, but still close enough to see.

If you didn't get a spring turkey...then start dreaming of a fall one!

Yearly String Replacement

This article  is a really good explanation of why a person should replace their string on a regular basis.
Replace Your Bow String Now!
We have seen a lot of bows that sit for 10+ years come through our doors & folks want to hunt with them!  It can be hard to convince them to consider their safety. The $30 is SO worth it.

We often take for granted that our bow should just work right and do what it's supposed to.  But just like changing the oil in a car, maintenance is key.

Technology!

I found a gallery of really unique & funny trail camera pictures!  Some of this stuff is outrageous.  What was life like BEFORE trail cameras anyhow???

Trail Cam Gallery

We have a few flying squirrel pics of our own, back when our trail camera was a 35mm film unit.  Boy does that seem like forever ago!  It all has me thinking, if we are in such a technology tailspin....WHAT'S NEXT???  New products flood the market every year, and some of our old favorites go obsolete.

I just had to special order my husband's Father's Day present online.  Nothing says love like 2 Gerber rib cage spreaders!!!  We own one, it's the best thing ever.  So why do you suppose they quit stocking them? I guess I should move on & get with the program, or stock up on the gear we love!

Bucket head

I stumbled upon this trail camera picture & it made me laugh.  Some of the weirdest things happen in nature.

I can't help but wonder if he has trouble running, because his bucket is catching too much air!  HA!

Trophy Rocks

It's that time of year to get out & replace the mineral blocks.  We have two locations on the land by our home, and also two at our hunting land up north.  The best product for attracting & keeping them coming is the Trophy Rock.  It's long lasting, saturates the area, and supplies the minerals to wildlife.

It's reassuring to know the bear won't eat it like a tick-tack. We've had issues with our deer cane disappearing up north.  These big rocks get knocked down from time to time, but don't just mysteriously disappear!

When you put your rock out, choose a somewhat secluded location.  The deer need to feel comfortable, not fully exposed in a field.  We've had good luck by water sources, it seems to satisfy more than one need & boost visits!  We chose by a lake & drainage creek.

The deer will hit the rock hard when they're antlers are growing.  That's why now is an IDEAL time to place out some rocks.  It's also beneficial to nursing does & wandering yearlings.
